Sharon was raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and attended Ferrum College, Tidewater Community College and Old Dominion University in Virginia. She and her husband, Alan, are both natives of the Shenandoah Valley and have worked together for twenty eight years. Alan does printmaking, matting and framing for Sharon's work. They travel together exhibiting and selling at fine art shows and galleries throughout the country. Her studio in Staunton is also open by appointment.
Sharon's works of art include oil paintings on canvas as well as her botanical illustrations for which she is internationally recognized. The oil paintings are done on location and in her studio. The illustrations are colored-pencil drawings and hand-painted etchings. She brings the same dedication of execution to both of these diverse mediums. Many museums and art centers across the country have hosted Sharon's work for one-person shows. To name a few, they include the Roanoke Valley Science Museum, the Virginia Living Museum, Fernbank Science Center, and Calloway Gardens in Georgia, the National Wildlife Federation and the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. Corporate sales include Augusta Health, Physicians for Women in Roanoke, Martha Jefferson Hospital, Shenandoah Women's Health Care Center, Rockingham Memorial Hospital, law offices of Wharton, Aldhizer and Weaver, Shenandoah University, Fort Lewis Lodge, The Iris Inn, Trillium House Nature Conservancy in Virginia, Manchester College in Indiana and Carnegie Melon's Hunt Institute in Pennsylvania. |
